On the eastern banks of Lake Benmore lies Black Forest Station, an 8,000ha sheep station. With very little rainfall, Black Forest Station is high and dry.
The track through Black Forest Station runs from the station homestead at Haldon Road right through to the Benmore Hydro Power Station. It's about a 3 hour trip at a leisurely pace with a few stops for photos.
To get access to the track, you need to let the stations owners know that you're coming through, they'll give you the code to get through the gate. You also need to pay $20 per vehicle at the gate with the padlock - but this is a cheap way to see some amazing views and enjoy some easy offroading.
Ideal for the learner offroader, even in a standard Jimny.
