We've partnered with Parkley 4WD to bring you a fantastic day of 4WD driver training!
This training day is strictly limited to 10 vehicles daily, so get in quick!
We'll spend the day with a qualified 4WD instructor at the awesome Parkley 4WD facility near Amberley.
Parkley is 35 minutes from Waimak Bridge.
The course is suitable for Standard Jimny’s on-road tyres. Some obstacles are more suitable for modified vehicles.
Schedule for 4wding course:
8.30-9.00 - Meet and discuss day ahead.
9.00-11.00 - Theory on Jimny 4WD transmissions, tyres, traction control, hill descent
control, hill fail, water crossing and weather.
11.00am - Morning tea
11.30am - Vehicle check
12.00am - Driving on uneven and challenging terrain
12.30pm - Gentle short slope ascent/descent followed by lunch on hilltop or BBQ in
training room area. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH, AMBERLEY IS TOO FAR AWAY TO SHOOT IN TO TOWN FOR LUNCH.
1.15pm - Hill driving
2.00pm - Water crossing, deep and shallow
3.00pm - Some free driving at Parkley
3.30pm Wrap-up debrief
- All Jimny’s to have WOF and Registration.
- All enter and drive on Parkley Off Road at their own risk.
- All vehicles need to have correct oil and other fluid levels.
- Not all vehicles need to have recovery points.
- Dress for wet and muddy conditions if needed.
- Work boots or similar are required.
The excellent Parkley 4WD facility is set up to train government agencies how to drive in offroad conditions safely. They train departments like DOC, the Police, Worksafe and more. Parkley 4WD is not a facility that is available to the public. This is a unique opportunity only available here!

Recovery Points are not essential, but recommended.
Much of the skills you need for safe 4WDing is best learned from the passenger seat.
Jimny Rentals! Our two Jimny rental cars will be available to hire, for $200 each. First in, first served.
No refunds will be issued if you are to withdraw within 7 days of the course.

I agree and second all @Brendon Doon’s review comments. An incredibly well organized training day with expert facilitation and interesting discussion topics. Great to understand how the Jimnys work and what makes them so great. Good to actually use all the buttons in the car and know what they’re for and most especially upskill driver capability with mastering terrain assessment and predicting how your vehicle will respond as you work your way through each obstacle. Can’t wait for the recovery course scheduled in the summer. Meanwhile keep saving for the ever growing accessory list. 😄 Strongly recommend to all Jimby enthusiasts, even those who know a bit about 4x4ing already. You’ll definitely come away having learnt something new.

Very useful information delivered in
an easily understood, fun package.
Excellent facility, awesome instructor's, great opportunity to meet some awesome jimny (and other vehicle) owners, and see how everyone has set up their rigs.
I have come away with a greater understanding of my jimny, it's abilities, and an extended shopping list of accessories.
Can not recommend enough for owners of all abilities.
I will definitely be doing this course again, can not wait to attend the recovery course, and look forward to some trip away with this awesome community.

I never thought I would love 4wding and was quite scared when I began the day. My partner had booked us in with him driving but then couldn't do it. And wow what an amazing day I had. Not only did the guys give me heaps of confidence and knowledge when 4 wheeldriving but now I'm hooked and want to keep going! Thank you to everyone that made the experience a memorable one and hoping to do another day when its wet.

Thanks to Adam, Ken, Brian, and Adrian, for an amazing training day at Parkley 4WD. We honestly had no idea how capable the wee Jimny is off-road until we did it ourselves, in our own Jimny, despite having watched countless videos and read reviews.
From being very cautious and nervous at the start of the day, we were happily Jimny-scampering up and down serious inclines amongst other things by the end of the day.
We would highly recommend that anyone with a Jimny contact Adam to do this training day. We're still smiling a week later!

As a total novice to 4wheel driving I can honestly say that my confidence in my cars ability has grown 10 fold. I always fancied doing some off roading but to be honest was completely petrified about loosing control of the car and damaging myself and my car. But not any longer. My confidence grew throughout the day and I totally loved it and cannot wait to do more.
