14 Day South Island Itinerary (Two-Week Road Trip)

The full classic loop at a relaxed pace: Christchurch, Tekapo, Mt Cook, Wanaka, Queenstown, Milford, West Coast, optional Nelson, and Kaikōura. Outline and planning tips.

Why 14 days?

Two weeks lets you do the full South Island loop without rushing. You can add extra nights in Wanaka or Queenstown, include Nelson and Abel Tasman, or simply enjoy more buffer days. March and April are great shoulder-season months for this length of trip.

The route follows the same classic loop as our 10-day guide, with more time for walks, rest days, and optional detours. Use our South Island road trip planner for an interactive map and 14-day preset.
