2-day 4WD Driver Training Day in the High Country!

Brand new, this is a course we are running for the first time. This is a practical training weekend and will be a memorable adventure. A mix of a guided tour into the mountains, with lots of 4WD lessons to learn at the same time.

Starting on Saturday morning, we'll head into the high country for 2 days of lessons and adventures. This course will be led by myself (Adam Crouchley) and Adrian Bowen of Get a Grip Training Solutions.

There will be 3 main takeaways from this trip, you will:

• Learn a bunch of skills and techniques
• Become familiar with exploring the high country, and get a better understanding of where you can and can't explore
• Meet a bunch of likeminded folk who share a common interest

On top of that, we'll have a nice evening sharing stories and food around a campfire way up in the high country. It'll be a social weekend, no doubt there will be lots of stories. 

During the weekend you will learn about:

• Safely crossing a river
• Recovering a stuck vehicle
• Navigating a rocky riverbed
• Climbing and descending steep tracks

REQUIREMENTS:

• All vehicles to have WOF and Registration.
• All vehicles are driven at their own risk.
• All vehicles need to have correct oil and other fluid levels.
• All vehicles need to have recovery points front and rear
• All vehicles must have a fire extinguisher 
• Pack for wet and muddy conditions
• Work boots or similar are required
• You don't need to be in a Jimny to come on this trip

The weather changes quickly in the high country. Even though we will be only in the mountains for 2 days, bring enough food and warm, dry clothes for 4 days. I haven't been stuck in the mountains yet, but if I ever am, I want to be prepared!

LOCATION - This course will be held on Island Hills Station, where we have a huge amount of land to explore. We have the valleys, rivers and streams down low, steep climbs, and high altitude ridges for us to traverse. The views are spectacular and the streams and bush are well worth exploring. We have some spectacular sites available for us to camp, too. 

CAMPING - We will be camping on the Saturday night, so you will need to bring a tent and sleeping gear and camp chairs to sit around the fire. We will have a portable toilet available, within a private tent that we call the 'ensuite'. We will have a big BBQ for everyone to use, so there is no need for you to bring a BBQ, but please bring your own food for the BBQ. 

Recovery Points are essential, front and rear.

PASSENGERS - Big 4WD trips are much safer with an active passenger. We encourage you to bring a passenger on this trip; there is a lot for the passenger to learn, too. Yes, kids can come, but no dogs please. There is no extra charge for passengers, the listed price is per vehicle.

This is not a tough trip. You don't need a snorkel or great big tyres, a completely standard Jimny is fine for this trip. If you have done one of our courses at Parkley, you'll be fine on this trip.

TIP: When I go 4WDing, I take SOME OF THESE. We will need to check river depths before we drive into the water. Changing into some of these before walking into the water makes the rest of the trip a lot more comfortable. Not essential, but I like them.

For the March trip: If you're new to 4WDing, Adrian (the trainer) is running a 1-day course at Parkley, the same as THIS ONE, on March 14th for anyone that wants to learn the basics.

Jimny Rentals! Our Jimny rental cars are available to hire for this trip, the cost for this is $500 for the weekend or $650 with our Adventure Package. We also have sleeping bags and pillows available for hire.

The price includes the fee that the station is charging us, you do not need to pay the station for access.

No refunds will be issued if you are to withdraw within 7 days of the course.
