Come for the Training – or Just for the Adventure!
This weekend caters to two types of off-road enthusiasts:
Training Focused: Learn hands-on 4WD techniques with expert instruction.
Adventure Focused: Join the journey for an incredible guided off-road experience.
Whether or not you get involved with the training, you'll explore spectacular landscapes, tackle thrilling terrain, and enjoy great company around the campfire.
What to Expect
Two Days of Off-Road Exploration – Drive through rivers, steep tracks, valleys, and high ridges in the breathtaking Canterbury high country.
4WD Training (For Those Who Want It) – Learn safe river crossings, vehicle recovery, steep climbs and descents, and more. Training is led by Adam Crouchley & Adrian Bowen of Get a Grip Training Solutions.
Camp Under the Stars – Bring your tent and sleeping gear for an authentic high-country experience with a shared BBQ and a social night by the fire (depending on fire restriction status!).
Meet Like-Minded Adventurers – Whether you’re here to learn or just to explore, you’ll connect with others who share your passion for 4WD travel.
Location: Island Hills Station
A private high-country station with diverse off-road terrain, stunning views, and challenging tracks. This is exclusive access, giving you a true wilderness adventure.
Vehicle Requirements

✔ Fire extinguisher
(Snorkels & oversized tyres NOT required – a standard 4WD is fine!)
Passengers Welcome! Bring a co-driver or friend at no extra charge. Kids are welcome, but no dogs, please.

$500 for the weekend (fully equipped Suzuki Jimny)
$650 with our Adventure Package (includes rooftop tent, camp chairs, cooking gear, 12V fridge)

Important Notes:
➡ If you’re brand new to 4WDing, consider Adrian’s 1-day training courses at Parkley to cover the basics before this trip. Not essential, but certainly helpful.
➡ No refunds within 7 days of the event.
➡ Our price includes training costs and the access fee to Island Hills Station – no extra fees!
➡ For larger vehicles with nice paint, there may be some very light scratching along the way.

Adam and team have created a great trip utilising the Island Hills Station to its potential.
We went at the beginning of May after an usually high amount of rainfall. Stunning, sunny days and a good amount of mud plus some higher river levels made an exciting and eventful trip. Some mud recovery which was good to experience and learn the techniques.
Great to have Adrian there from the 1-day 4WD Driver Training Day, that we attended earlier in the year. Good to test the skills we had learnt, and also learn new tips and gain more confidence.
Island Hills Station is an amazing place and it was a privilege to have access and gain the height in the hills. Great bunch of light minded people, amazing campsite location and facilities. Will hopefully be back again to discover more of the station and attend one of Adam's trips in the summer.

I attended the 1-day training at Amberly several months prior, which I highly recommend if you are new to 4WDing like I am. However, I had not had many opportunities since then to practice my new skills. The 2-day 4WD trip to Island Hills Station was perfect! Such a great bunch of really friendly people, of differing experience and abilities, but all willing to share their knowledge. For me, it was very reassuring having Adrian Bowen (a professional 4WD driver trainer) there. His calm manner was really helpful and he willingly answered all of my many questions. I realised how much I had learned at the training day, learned so much more, and gained a ton of confidence. The campsite was in a stunning location. I had so much fun and can't wait to do another one of these trips when I can :-)

An awesome weekend exploring the incredible Island Hills Station.
Very informative, great hands on with different types of recovery equipment.
EXcellent bunch of like minded people, always interesting to see other people's set ups.
Highly recommend for those new to off roading or camping.

Had such an awesome weekend driving and camping with the crew. Definitely recommend, as someone who hasn’t driven much off road was definitely worth it, gave me so much confidence and knowledge for my future trips!
