Fishing and Exploring the Marlborough Sounds
Over the Christmas holidays, we went camping with the Jimny. I spent a few days fishing and exploring the furthest reaches of the Sounds.
Hunting for fishing spots was easy with the Jimny, there is never any need to carry gear down to the beach, I just drive down there and park on the beach!
We explored right up to Bulwer, which is 77km of winding, most shingle roads from Rai Valley. I've never known 77kms to be such a long trip, it's about a 3 hour journey.
Bulwer is the home to just one (super friendly) family, but is made up of about 15 other holiday homes. Most of the time I'm sure it's a ghost town, but when we were there we met some holidaymakers that frequent the bay with their boat each year.
Check out this guy, he's a local in Bulwer and his name is Paul. He mostly eats fish that the fishermen bring in off their boats. He likes walks along the beach, fine dining and swimming with stingray (see photo two 😂)
The Goodride tyres proved awesome on the gravel roads, reliable and stable through loose single and dirt tracks while doing well on the road too.
An awesome trip. Not many fish were caught, but some very cool roads were driven and the Jimny saw some parts of New Zealand that are very rarely driven at all. Love the Marlborough Sounds!
